Times and timezones

How NOYU handles your times when you travel or move - past data, schedules and what to check if a time looks wrong.

NOYU takes your timezone from your devices, so there is nothing to set up. Your phone shares its timezone with NOYU through the app, and the web app uses your browser's timezone. When you travel or move, your devices pick up the new zone and NOYU follows.

Past data keeps its own clock

Anything you recorded - a night's sleep, a run, a workout - stays in the timezone it happened in. A 7am run in San Francisco shows as a 7am run forever, even if you now live somewhere else. The same goes for the patterns NOYU works out from your data, like your usual bedtime: each night counts in the zone you slept it.

Schedules follow you

Anything scheduled works the other way round: it follows your clock. A morning report set for 07:00 arrives at 07:00 wherever you wake up. When your timezone changes, your scheduled Actions and any running experiment reminder move with you automatically.

One-off reminders are the exception - "Friday at 9am" stays pinned to the moment you set, in the timezone you set it.

If a time looks wrong

  • Check your device's date and time settings. NOYU can only be as right as your phone or computer - make sure the timezone there is set automatically.
  • Open the app after you arrive. Your new timezone reaches NOYU the next time the app checks in, so times may lag until then.
  • Older data may show in your current timezone. Data recorded before mid-2026 did not store its own timezone, so a small number of older entries may display in your current zone rather than the one they happened in.
