Readiness describes how prepared your body looks for the day ahead, from 0 to 100. It is worked out from the night that just ended.
Readiness and recovery are the same number. Most other trackers call it recovery. NOYU shows it as Readiness because it points forward. There is one value, not two measurements.
What goes into it
Seven metrics, weighted - listed here from most influential to least - and nearly all of them compared with your own recent normal:

Most people will not have all seven. Temperature, respiratory rate and blood oxygen depend on your device, so NOYU rebalances around whichever metrics you do have - HRV always counts most, and a missing metric never costs you.
What "vs your baseline" means
For each metric, NOYU keeps a rolling picture of your last 30 days: your typical value and how much you naturally bounce around. Today is compared with that, and today never counts towards its own baseline.
Sitting exactly at your normal scores about 80, not 50. Being at your normal is a good place to be, and the scale is built so that a strong night can go higher and only a real departure pulls it down.
NOYU needs about five nights before a baseline is trustworthy. It also puts a floor under how tight your baseline can get, so someone with unusually consistent nights does not get a wildly swinging score from ordinary noise.
Two metrics scored differently
Most metrics are penalised in both directions, but two are not:
- Respiratory rate only counts against you when it is raised. A breathing rate below your normal is not a problem, while an elevated one is a well-established early sign of illness.
- Blood oxygen is the one metric scored against an absolute range rather than your own, because healthy overnight saturation sits in a narrow band for everyone.
Temperature is penalised in both directions, since running hot or cold relative to your own normal is worth knowing about.
Why yesterday's training is not in today's Readiness
Readiness deliberately does not include a training load term.
A hard block of training suppresses your HRV and lifts your resting heart rate, and NOYU is already measuring both of those directly. Adding a separate estimate of your training load on top would charge you twice for the same session, using the noisier of the two measurements.
So a hard session shows up in your Readiness through its actual physiological cost, which appears in tomorrow's score. Training this afternoon will not move today's number, because today's was set from last night.
Sleeping heart rate, not resting heart rate
The heart rate in Readiness is your average overnight heart rate, taken from the night that just ended.
This is usually a few beats higher than the resting heart rate your Garmin or Oura app shows you, because an overnight average includes REM periods when your heart rate naturally rises. Both numbers are correct; they measure different things.
If your device does not report overnight heart rate at all, NOYU falls back to the daily resting figure and relabels the line so you can tell which one is in play. It never mixes the two within one series.
Why it does not change during the day
Readiness is a morning snapshot. Checking at nine at night gives you the same number you saw at breakfast.
That is intentional. It describes the state you woke up in, and it would be misleading for it to drift around based on the day you then had.
