NOYU keeps one note of lasting context about you: that you are training for a 10k in the spring, that you do not eat dairy, that you prefer short replies in the morning. This is Memory, and it is why you do not have to reintroduce yourself in every conversation.
You can read and edit the whole note. Open your Profile and choose Memory.
What goes in the note
The note holds things that live nowhere else: goals, injuries, schedules, life events, and how you like NOYU to talk to you. It is written in plain language, under a few headings, and it is limited to 8,000 characters so it stays a sharp picture and not an archive.
It does not hold anything NOYU can already look up. Your HRV, last night's sleep, your workouts and your logged meals are in your data, and NOYU reads them directly whenever it needs them. Your date of birth, sex and height belong to your Profile and are not copied into the note.
How it gets written
NOYU updates the note as you talk, when you share something lasting or ask it to remember something. Most conversations change nothing, and that is intended. Ordinary chat, single meals, single workouts and suggestions you have not taken up are not saved.
If a fact matters, saying it plainly is the reliable way to make it stick: "remember that I have a shoulder injury".
The same goes for how NOYU talks to you. "Keep morning messages short" or "skip the jokes" is saved with the scope you gave it, and applies in Chat, Actions and Updates. A one-off request such as "just the headline today" affects that reply only.
Follow-ups
When you mention something that will have a later answer, such as an injury, an appointment or a change you are trying, NOYU adds a line under a Follow up heading with a date, for example "Check in around 2 Oct 2026: left calf strain, how the physio went". Once that date arrives, NOYU asks how it went the next time you talk.
Delete the line and NOYU will not ask.
Editing the note
On the Memory page, choose Edit, change the text and choose Save. The note is ordinary text, so you can correct a detail, reword something, add a fact yourself or remove a line. NOYU works from your version from the next message onwards.
If NOYU updated the note while you had the editor open, saving shows "Memory has changed" along with the newer note. Choose Load latest note, make your change again and save.
Making NOYU forget something
Editing and forgetting are different, and the difference matters.
- Editing changes what is written in the note. The conversation where you first mentioned it is still there, so NOYU may come across it again and write it back.
- Forgetting is done in Chat. Say "forget that I was training for a marathon". NOYU removes it from the note and also stops reading the conversation up to that point, so it cannot pick the fact up again.
To correct a detail, edit. To make something go away for good, ask NOYU to forget it. Forgetting does not delete your messages or your health records. It stops NOYU using them.
Memory is not the same as the conversation
Each time you send a message, NOYU works from the note plus roughly the last seven days of conversation. Anything older is not reread every time, but NOYU can search your past conversations when a missing detail matters.
So NOYU has reliable recall of what is in the note and of anything recent, and hazier recall of an offhand remark from months ago that never made it into the note. When that happens, NOYU is designed to go and check, and to say so if it cannot find it.
